About the Union

The New Zealand Dairy Workers Union (NZDWU) represents workers in the dairy industry and is an active, vibrant and democratic organisation.

The NZDWU current membership is 7,000 full time equivalent members. Our members work predominantly in dairy factories, town milk supply, processing plants, stores and warehousing, packing, can-making, and other ancillary activities. In addition, a large percentage of our members drive milk tankers and collect milk from farms.

We are an active affiliate of the NZ Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU), and the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers Associations (IUF).

Our philosophy is to strongly defend and promote our members' working wages and conditions, and to work co-operatively with other unions through our affiliations to strengthen worker organisations in New Zealand and around the world.
